Wednesday April 30th - Night Ride - Bavington

Monday, April 28th, 2008

Well if we are going to have a dedicated mellow (beginner, casual, slow) ride then we may as well have a fast ride too. Maybe the Wednesday ride should be that. Maybe Sunday can be the long, but not as fast, ride.

Meet: at Thick Bikes
Time: 6:00 PM
Bring: your fully charged lights and your energy bars

New weekly rides - Beginner Friendly!!!

Monday, April 28th, 2008

Mike and i have been discussing this and i think we are going to add a couple novice friendly rides to our schedule.

We will be doing friday night rides in Frick that will last about 2 hours and get in some work on technique on iron gates, nature trail and rollercoaster that will be a nice easy pace so beginner to intermediate folks can concentrate on building skills and not trying to keep up with the pack. These rides will start this week and we will be meeting at the tennis court parking lot at braddock and biddle at 6pm. try to get there right on time so we can get the whole ride in before dark (again, trying to keep it beginner friendly)

we will also be doing longer easy paced rides on saturday afternoons at some of the less technically demanding trails around here. we are aiming for 4-5 hours of riding at places like bavington or south park or settler’s cabin. we have to finalize a time but i’m thinking that we will probably meet at thick around 1pm and caravan to the ride from there. this ride might not start till next weekend, but after that it will be a regular weekly ride.

the knob - day two

Monday, April 28th, 2008

there was much inner tube carnage on race day. the support shop actually ran out of tubes because so many people were flatting out. kaloz got the vary last one. my first lap i flatted out twice in about 10 minutes and had a slow leak the second half. thanks to glass and thorns i dropped from the middle of the pack to about 20 minutes behind and gave myself heat stroke trying to catch up on the dry hot climbing part on the back of the lap (vomited AND passed out!) by the time i got in my first lap took about an hour 50. i damn near dropped out and took a dnf(they are still showing the dnf on the results), but i sat down for ten minutes, got some goo and some water and when i wasnt dizzy anymore i went out on my second lap. i’m glad i didnt bitch out because i rocked the second lap in about 45 minutes. which would have put me in the top half of the sport class if my first lap hadnt been a total clusterfuck. kaloz had to walk about 1.5 miles back to the starting line to get a new tube on his first lap with predictable results and then broke his thumb on the over/under chute that took mike out on day one. mike had a pretty uneventful run on race day (thankfully since he almost sat out with the broken finger) and turned in about a 2 hour time.

hopefully next time we dont have such a disaster on our hands (literally). even so it was a great weekend and we can not wait till the next race at the knob on may 24th.

the knob - day one

this place is awesome. They have done a ton of rehab to the trails and from the camba guys we talked to they are planning a ton more work on the trails and the campground. Mike fucked his leg up and probably broke his pinky on our preride and I took a dip in a bog. Kaloz only got lost in the car. Twice. Race day should be interesting. They are expecting about 200 people to show. Oh, fuck gears. I switced back last night after the ride. single speed ftw yo! I’ll have another report after the race. I’m gonna go drop the kids of.
