Sunday May 18th – Road Ride – Pedal Pittsburgh
There will be no official off-road ride today as most DORCs will be riding in the huge event known as “Pedal Pittsburgh”. It is not too late to register! Check out the Official Website for more info and locations where you may do last minute registration. If you are doing the MS 150 ride you need to do the long (60 mile) Pedal Pittsburgh loop as it is perfect preparation for it.

We might be back in time to do the ride with everyone else. however, if we aren’t stef and i will most likely be doing the ride in the afternoon/evening for the hell of it. if anyone else cant make the morning start let me know and we can figure out a good time to do it in the afternoon.

This morning when I woke up it was raining pretty hard but the doppler showed that there were some gaps in the storm so I decided that I would try and ride anyway. I started off on my road bike but it felt so weird that after two blocks I turned around and switched to my fixed gear. It rained off and on throughout the morning but was not too bad. My feet did get soaked and although it was not very cold they turned numb. Around the 50 mile mark the route passed by the shop so I took a break, got some feeling back in my toes and changed clothes. When I set out again to do the long climb up 18th street I decided not to take my wet and grimy camelbak which contained tools, tubes and a pump. Of course my bike sensed that I was unprepared and decided to teach me a lesson. At the top of 18th I turned right on Arlington and soon felt that my rear tire was low on air. HA HA! No tube, No Pump and most importantly no 15 mm wrench to get the wheel off. I walked down 18th Street shamefully. Once at the shop I switched bikes and finished the ride on my strange feeling road bike. Lesson: Be Prepared. I did not see any DORCs on the route today. I did see CJ in front of his house where he informed me that he had not felt well when he woke up and had only done the flat 6 mile course. Did anyone else ride?
